Selric hails from the far northern reaches of Elidor, where the forest is so dense few humans know it's full extent. His mother was human and a villager in an outlying hamlet bordering the great wood. Her romance with Selric's father was secret, for at this time, no human was allowed to know of the enclave of Grey Elves living their long lives deep in the forest. Further, when Selric was born no one was the wiser of the faerie blood in his heritage. Soon though he began to manifest the signs of his parentage. As he grew to manhood, though his face sported hair, his features took on an Elfish cast, and his vision was graced with the eagle sight of his father's race. Superstition and ignorance won out in the small village and he became aware that many of his former friends shunned him. At his young age he didn't understand the reason for such attitudes. He became embittered and reclusive. It was then his father revealed himself to Selric and taught him his history.

With the full knowledge of his past and a glimpse of his future there, provided by his experience with his village, he decided to travel and distance himself from his pain. It was then he learned of Elidor to the south and the tolerance and wisdom with which it was ruled. As he traveled fair Elidor's land he began to see the mix of peoples that lived together in peace with themselves and the world around them. Elf, Dwarf, Halfling, Human and even more exotic races such as the Forest Dragons lived harmoniously in the green forests of Elidor.

So it was that Selric came to live in Elidor, hunting and trapping for his living. It was only when King Alfred put out a call for rangers for his army, that Selric's thoughts turned to the military. King Alfred called for the nation to expand and protect the forests to the west in order to preserve the land for future generations. King Alfred called this the Elidorian National Forest, and he was in need of rangers to help in exploring and claiming this land. Selric strung his bow and donned his gambeson to take on this glorious task.
