Born to a wealthy family, Kayla was raised to be a "proper lady". Being youngest and the only girl of 10 children living in the family manor, Kayla was picked on umercifully. Only one brother, the oldest Kam, would come to her defense. Knowing that Kayla resented being treated like a fragile doll, Kam taught her how to ride and to defend herself when attacked. She was a good student and quick learner.

When she was 12, three of Kayla's brothers thought it would be fun to start a stampede in the Town Square. Kayla and Kam were picking up some things for their mother when they heard screaming coming from the street outside. Kayla ran outside and saw a small child in the path of the cattle. The child was to terriffied to move, so Kayla pushed the little boy out of the way. She managed to save the child but in the process her knees and wrists were injured. She eventually recovered but her joints were severely weakened.

Three years later, mauraders attacked her hometown, destroying everything. The town women and children gathered in the local church. One of the older women sent all the young children into a hidden room in the basement. Being the oldest unmarried girl in the town, Kayla was placed in charge of keeping the young children quiet. Kam and some of his friends remained with them to provide protection. The rest of the town men, including the rest of her brothers and her father, went to fight the invaders and were subsequently slaughtered. When they were done with the men, the invaders moved on to attack the church. From her hiding place, Kayla was forced to listen to the screams of the women who were being raped and murdered and Kam and his friends as they were tortured.

After the mauraders left, a group of druids who had heard of the attacks came to help. They took the children to a neiboring town to be raised. One of the elders recognized Kayla as the girl who had saved his grandson from the stampede 3 years earlier. Because of her bravery and inner strength, the druids took her in and taught her their ways.

When she was eighteen, Kayla was wandering through the woods when she met a druid she had never met before traveling with a thief. The two discovered that she was restless and convinced her to go with them and join the Kingdom of Elidor. She did so. Kayla is stubborn, strong willed and compassionate. She doesn't like hurting people, so she isn't much of a fighter. Instead, she perfers to care for and protect the children around her. However, when a child or one of her friends is in danger, Kayla will use whatever means necessary to protect him or her.
