If you asked the Registrar of Elidor, he will say that Clovis was born of noble blood, daughter to the King’s linguist and the Ambassador to old Mordom, a child of the of the Deoannsa clan of Southern Elidor.
If you ask Clovis herself, she will say she was born on an oxcart under a cypress in a wild land far from the continent, a child of both the greening fields of Elidor and the desert land of Satya.
Both of these things are true.
Her parents, high-born of Elidor, her mother possessed a gift for language and her father a gift for people, and it was they with their retinue that traveled the lands as ambassadors, diplomats and explorers for the country. Three years passed before Clovis was born to them, in a land across the sea, called Satya, where they had settled in for a diplomatic tenure.
Clovis Mara Deoannsa, named Farah Siham by the peoples of Satya, was raised in-country for most of her life, a land of scrub deserts and lush jungles, wandering caravans and cities raised under massive cedars, and of sloe-eyed, amber hued men and women who laughed and danced and fought as easily as breathing. She flourished there, her family adopted by the people, and she was raised as their own.
Her parents lived equally in Satya and Elidor during her later youth, returning to the continent to continue their diplomatic missions when Clovis became of the age of fourteen. During those years, she traveled with her parents across the span of the world, living in Mordomian statehouses and Viking encampments, traveling with warbands and nomads, even meeting peaceably and convivially with the more amicable of the drow and outworld-blooded, so great were her parent’s skills at negotiation.
She learned the arts of language and diplomacy, dance and meditation, and also the skills of scouting, combat and warfare, for all was not peaceful on the roads beyond her home.
When Clovis reached eighteen she was conscripted into the Elidorian army, already weakened by interior strife within the country. She spent her required time serving in the ranks, but once her service was fulfilled, she immediately traveled with her parents across the continent in a campaign to preserve and build relations after Alfred stepped in as King. She remained in her family’s entourage until such time that the realm settled, and Elidor stabilized, and then, she returned to Satya, where she lived with her adopted family for a time before exploring the land to see what yielded to her.
It was another six years before she revisited Elidor, when service and duty called, and she rejoined the army once more. Yet the lessons of her parents were etched in her heart, and she continued to make peaceable inroads with other countries and factions, having maintained contacts from her previous journeys while overseas, and she worked to develop new relations while on leave. Her ability caught the attention of Alfred, who offered her the position of Elidor’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, a mantle she graciously if not exuberantly accepted.
To this day, she remains in the army under King Alfred, fighting as needs be, balancing her diplomatic acumen with her necessary service to the sword, and traveling to her second home as the time and the sea permits.
Clovis is loyal to Elidor, and has a profound love for her blood-country; however, she is at heart a child of the world, and her connection to Satya runs deep. She wears the tribal harkus markings of her foster lands, and continues to practice the customs, dances and rites learned since childhood in her adopted home.
She serves fiercely as a ranger and footsoldier under King Alfred, though in quieter times can frequently be found in foreign camps and companies, carousing, storytelling and drinking, pursuing her own curious form of diplomacy.
Clovis likes good wine, decadence, starlight, and puppies. Her dislikes include mean people, torture, boredom, and cold weather.
